About Beyond EV
Beyond EV is Australia’s home for in-depth electric and new energy vehicle coverage, built for people who want to understand why a car is the way it is, not just what it can do.
Founded in July 2024 by David Crockett, Beyond EV grew out of something most automotive outlets were not doing: going deep. While others were covering spec sheets and 0-100 times, David was pulling apart BYD’s supply chain, researching their motor architecture, and asking the questions that actually matter to serious EV buyers.
More than a spec sheet
Most EV coverage tells you what a car has. Beyond EV tells you why it was built that way. Who makes the motors, what engineering decisions went into the battery chemistry, and what separates one powertrain from another at a fundamental level. That level of detail is rare in Australian automotive media, and it is what has made Beyond EV a trusted name in the EV and super hybrid space.
Who is David Crockett?
David is a Melbourne-based EV owner and automotive researcher who has covered more than 50,000km in his BYD Seal. His first two years were spent conducting intensive research into BYD as a business, tracking their technology development, supplier relationships, and Australian market strategy with a depth that attracted an audience of automotive engineers, fleet buyers, and everyday EV owners alike.
Since early 2026, Beyond EV has expanded beyond BYD to cover new energy vehicles from all major brands entering the Australian market, including full vehicle reviews, technical deep dives, and industry analysis.
Beyond EV on YouTube
The Beyond EV YouTube channel launched in July 2024 and as of 2026 has grown to over 23,000 subscribers, making it one of Australia’s most-watched independent EV channels. The same depth and rigour you find in our written coverage drives every video we produce.
