Chery Group has posted its strongest May result on record, delivering 247,823 vehicles globally during the month, a 20.5% increase on May 2025. International deliveries reached 181,871 units, up 80.5% year-on-year, marking the third consecutive month of record-breaking export volumes.

In Australia, Chery delivered 4,401 vehicles in May, an 84% increase on the same month last year. VFACTS data places the Tiggo 4 at 2,123 sales and the Tiggo 7 at 1,202 for the month, with the Tiggo 4 remaining one of Australia’s best-selling small SUVs despite the newly arrived Jaecoo J5 narrowly edging it out at 2,172 units in the same segment.

The one-million mark, faster than ever

From January through May, Chery Group delivered more than 1.1 million vehicles globally, reaching the one-million-unit threshold faster than at any point in its history. International deliveries for the five-month period climbed 69.5% to 752,755 units, a new record for a Chinese manufacturer. The group’s cumulative global customer base now sits at more than 19.6 million owners, with over 6.5 million of those outside China.

New Energy Vehicle sales also crossed a significant threshold. Global NEV deliveries exceeded 100,000 units for the second consecutive month in May, reaching 100,304, a 58.8% increase year-on-year. For the January-to-May period, NEV deliveries totalled 361,761 units, up 25.7%.

Europe: 230% growth, 24 markets

Chery’s European expansion is moving at a pace that warrants attention. The brand now operates across 24 European countries and recorded more than 107,000 deliveries across the region between January and April, representing 230% growth on the same period last year. European NEV deliveries grew by 570% across the same window.

What this means for Australia

Chery Australia’s 2025 full-year result came in at 34,889 units, a 176% increase on 2024, with the Tiggo 4 carrying the bulk of the load at 20,149 units for the year. The brand has since continued to build retail infrastructure, opening a regional parts warehouse in Melbourne holding over $28 million in inventory, with Brisbane and Perth facilities planned for later in 2026.

The local lineup is expanding rapidly. Lepas is due to arrive mid-2026 and iCaur to follow, with the plug-in hybrid diesel dual-cab ute code-named KP31 expected before the end of the year. Chery Australia COO Lucas Harris has confirmed further brands including Exeed, QQ and Fulwin are probable beyond 2026. The multi-brand architecture, with Chery, Jaecoo, and Omoda already in market, is unusual by Western retail standards but the sales numbers suggest the strategy is landing with Australian buyers.

The global results reinforce that Chery is not a niche player finding its footing. It is a large-scale manufacturer with a growing electrified portfolio, deep export capability, and clear intent to compete across multiple price points in markets like Australia. The product pipeline coming in the second half of 2026 will be the next real test of whether that momentum can hold.
