MG’s MGS6 EV Arrives in Australia: Premium Mid-Size SUV Starts at $49,990 Drive Away

Published:

MG Motor Australia has launched the MGS6 EV, a premium all-electric mid-size SUV that slots above the MGS5 in the brand’s expanding local lineup. Two variants are on sale from today: the Essence RWD from $49,990 drive away and the Essence AWD from $56,990 drive away.

It’s the brand’s third all-electric launch in Australia in 2026, completing a lineup that now stretches from the value-focused MG4 hatchback all the way through to the Cyberster roadster. I had the chance to sit down with MG’s product planning manager Kevin Kou at the Melbourne Motor Show earlier this year for a full walkthrough — you can catch that in the video above.

Performance and Range

The RWD variant runs a single 180kW rear motor and delivers up to 530km of WLTP range. Step up to the AWD and a second front motor brings combined output to 266kW, with 0–100km/h dispatched in 5.1 seconds. Range on the AWD sits at 485km WLTP.

Both variants share the same 77kWh NMC battery pack and support up to 144kW DC fast charging, with a 10–80% top-up taking around 38 minutes. AC charging is handled at 11kW three-phase. V2L is also on board, so you can run gear off the car at a campsite or jobsite.

Interior and Technology

Cabin quality was one of the standout impressions from my time with the car at the motor show. Sound isolation is genuinely impressive. With the windows up at a busy indoor show, the interior was noticeably quiet. The vented seats push out cold air you can actually hear and feel, and the panoramic glass roof runs all the way to the rear seats without chopping into headroom. Rear legroom is generous too, with Kevin Kou demonstrating more than two fist-widths of knee room even with the front seat pushed all the way back.

On the tech side, the MGS6 EV gets a dual-screen layout with a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display, plus a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless phone charging, and MG’s iSmart connected app. The 11-speaker audio system includes a subwoofer mounted in the boot.

Seating is vegan leather with suede upholstery and stitching throughout. Front seats are heated and ventilated with three levels of adjustment. Outer rear seats are heated as well. Physical climate controls are retained alongside the touchscreen — a welcome choice.

Safety

MG Pilot driver assistance comes standard, covering active emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and a 360-degree camera. Drivers can save their preferred safety settings via the MG Pilot Custom function.

Warranty and Ownership

Every MGS6 EV comes with MG’s 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty as standard, with the option to extend up to 10 years or 250,000km through MG’s Service Activated Extended Warranty program.

Colours and Availability

The MGS6 EV is available in MG dealerships across Australia now. Seven exterior colours are on offer: Dover White (standard), Stratford Gold, Black Pearl, Camden Grey, Piccadilly Blue, Sterling Silver, and Diamond Red. Two interior palettes are available: Grey Ivory with Nordic Ashwood style trim, or Dark with Carbon Fibre style trim.

Are you considering the MGS6 EV, or does the MGS5 EV at a lower price point make more sense for your needs? Let me know in the comments below.
